"Sun writing" for the Paros Festival @archway of the Crispis Mansion in Paroikia, Paros Island, Greece.
Sun is writing about odd times-
About the unexpected-
About love for the same things-
About solidarity wherever we stand-
About friendships no matter distances and time-
About acceptance of the different-
About knowing your limits-
Sun is writing about love
For each other
For the 3d Paros Festival, with the title "The festival differently" Dimitra Skandali creates a new temporary site specific outdoors installation in the volt of the Krispis mansion. She brings Cycladic nature in the streets of Parikia and even perhaps symbolically aims to bring the "upside down".
Dimitra Skandali is very often inspired by the space where she exhibits. It becomes a gesture of appreciation honoring the small and insignificant, with a strong desire to re-evaluate it, and to highlight its beauty or symbolism. This need stems from her experience with the specific sites, and in this case, even more as this is the island where she grew up.
The feeling of the Cycladic summer, the dry field, the hot sun that leaves a heavy and bright yellow that dominates everywhere. Burned by the sun and the heat, dry fields of wild avena are brought in the city. Over the city. Fields above the city. Where one would never expects to see it. The artist seeks to mark this experience of the unexpected, the surprised and the unorthodox. An image that reflects the odd times we live in and the way we experience this peculiar summer.
