"Through the seas, my roots" @ The Addison Street Windows Gallery, Berkeley, CA
A site specific installation made with seaweed, sea grass and roots, all woven with copper wire taken out of communication cables. Cedar roots and roots from armyrikia (Tamarix gallica) are brought from my home island beaches. They are woven with seaweed / sea grass from the beaches of San Francisco, CA, and with sea-grape roots and morning glory vines from the beaches of Key West, FL. A gesture about merging the oceans across the continents: the Aegean Sea, the Pacific and the Atlantic.
Size of the piece: H 7 x W 65 x D 3 feet
Curated by Demetri Broxton for the Berkeley Arts Commision.
