"Al Mogran" @Art Factory, Athens GR for the exhibition Find Refuge in Art, organized by the Hellenic Open University.
Curated by Elli Velliou:
"Sometimes language is not enough to communicate, to understand, to feel, to express the untold. This is when art is not just an alternative, but a need.
FIND REFUGE IN ART
Through the works of the artists who collaborated to create a work together, along with the individual artists, we hope that a new and creative dialogue opens. A new beginning…"
From the academic director of project PRESS, Prof. G. Androulakis, and the Coordination Team:
"The exhibition is a result of the artistic collaboration between pairs of artists with different cultural backgrounds, along with the exceptional work by numerous individual artists. The exhibition, which includes visual and multimedia works and musical performances, seeks to reflect the «refugee experience» and aims to contribute to the multi-level support of the refugees in Greece and to raising the awareness of the general public."
Myself and Sudanese artist Moiz Salman collaborated for Al Mogran, a site specific wall drawing made with ashes (made by me) with three sculptures (made by Moiz).
My contribution is inspired from Khartoum and the Nile, where Moiz grew up: from a series of 18th/19th century maps from the area, where the Blue and the White Nile meet, together with strategic army attack maps: lines / dots of connection and division; lines and dots as scars and as anonymous humans of any time who may be a reason of displacement, who could be one of us.
Dimensions of the whole piece: 10.17 x 10.17 x 6.23 feet (310 x 310 x 190 cm)
